Upper Limb
An upper-limb prosthesis is a custom-made device designed to replace part or all of a missing upper-limb. This can range from a device that replaces part of your hand, to a device that replaces your entire upper-limb including your shoulder, elbow and hand. The design of your upper-limb prosthesis will depend upon your anatomy, amputation level, current activity level and future functional goals.
All upper-limb prostheses include up to three main elements: the Socket, Elbow, and Hand. Each of these components are critical in the facilitation of your recovery and the achievement of your goals. Lower Limb
A lower-limb prosthesis is a custom-made device designed to replace part or all of a missing lower-limb. This can range from a device that replaces part of your foot, to a device that replaces your entire lower-limb including your hip, knee, and foot. The design of your lower-limb prosthesis will depend upon your anatomy, amputation level, current activity level and future functional goals. All lower-limb prostheses include up to three main elements: the socket, knee, and foot. Each of these components are critical in the facilitation of your recovery and the achievement of your goals. Pediatrics
At Eschen, we recognize there are differences between treating children and adults with limb-loss. That is why Eschen has assembled a leading team of prosthetic specialists focused on pediatric care. Our pediatric prosthetists have dedicated their lives to treating children living with limb-loss. As your child grows and becomes more active, their prosthesis will require upgrades and replacements to keep up with them. During high-growth periods, you and your child will likely be spending a lot of time with your prosthetist. Our mission is to build strong and lasting relationships with our pediatric patients and their parents and work as a team to reach and achieve our goals. Sports
Living with limb-loss should not hold you back from participating in sports. Fortunately, there are upper- and lower-limb prosthetics available for just about every sport and activity imaginable. In some cases, sports prosthetics are single purpose, like the “Volleyball Hand.” In others, they are extremely versatile, like running feet, which are able to accommodate just about any cardio or non-cardio activity. Whether you are a weekend warrior, a professional athlete, or slowly beginning to integrate athletics back into your life, we’ve got you covered. When it comes to water sports, Eschen is extremely proud to be a leading provider of water legs and a co-founder of the Fin, the first-of-its-kind swimming prosthesis. The Fin + Swim Legs
Most lower-limb prostheses are not waterproof. As a result, it can be quite difficult for individuals living with limb-loss to participate in water-based activities like swimming and bathing. Eschen set out to change that by becoming an industry leader in providing water-based prostheses, including swimming and shower legs. Waterproof legs are designed for an assortment of activities like swimming, surfing, water skiing, and more. In addition to being a leading provider of water legs, Eschen also co-created the first-ever 3D-printed swimming prosthesis, the Fin. The Fin, unlike traditional swimming legs, was actually designed for swimming, not just standing or walking in water. With the Fin, amputees can walk into a pool or the ocean, swim, and then walk out again. That means no more walking to the edge of the pool and taking your leg off to swim! What to Expect
The design of, and timeline for obtaining, your prosthesis will depend upon your anatomy, amputation level, current activity level and future functional goals. Your prosthesis will be a reflection of you. It will be designed, customized, and fit to you - optimized to facilitate your recovery and the achievement of your goals. The process of receiving your prosthesis will depend upon several factors, including:
-
Are you a new amputee or an experienced wearer?
-
How and when did you lose your limb(s)?
-
The health and appearance of your residual and contralateral limb
-
Your current activity level and future functional goals
These are just a few of the questions that will dictate the timeline and process for receiving your prosthesis. If you are interested in exploring more about what to expect for yourself or a loved one, click the link below and schedule a free consultation today.
