Pediatric Services

At Eschen, we recognize there are differences between treating children and adults with limb-loss, and we have assembled a leading team of prosthetic specialists focused on pediatric care. Our pediatric prosthetists have dedicated their lives to treating children living with limb-loss. As your child grows and becomes more active, their prosthesis will require upgrades and replacements to keep up with them. During high-growth periods, you and your child will likely be spending a lot of time with your prosthetist. Our mission is to build strong and lasting relationships with our pediatric patients and their parents, and work as a team to facilitate your child reaching their full potential.

Our pediatric specialists are experts in

  • Lower-limb prosthetics

  • Upper-limb prosthetics

  • Sports prosthetics

What is the process for receiving a prosthesis?

The process of your child receiving a prosthesis will depend upon several factors, including:

  • How and when did your child  lose their limb(s)?

  • Is your child a new amputee or an experienced prosthetic wearer?

  • What is the health and appearance of your child's residual and contralateral limb?

  • What is your child’s current activity level and future functional goals?

These are just a few of the questions that will dictate the timeline and process for your child receiving their prosthesis. In general, the process always includes the steps outlined on our Prosthetic What to Expect Page.

The prosthetic team at Eschen is proud to be a leading source and provider in lower extremity prostheses.

Upper- and Lower-Limb Pediatrics

When it comes to pediatric prosthetics, the name of the game is versatility and durability. Your child’s prosthesis should be versatile enough to accommodate all of their scholastic and recreational activities, and durable enough to withstand the wear-and-tear that comes along with being a kid. Even as your child grows, we’ll never want them to outgrow their prosthesis. During high-growth periods, you and your child will be spending a lot of time with us as we upgrade and replace components and make adjustments to their prosthesis. Eschen’s upper- and lower-limb pediatric specialists are leaders in the field. Click below to learn more about upper- and lower-limb prosthetics and to schedule a free consultation.

Sports

Living with limb-loss should not hold your child back from participating in sports. Thankfully, there are upper- and lower-limb prosthetics available for just about every sport and activity you can think of. In some cases, sports prosthetics are single purpose, like the “Volleyball Hand.” In others, they are extremely versatile, like running feet, which are able to accommodate just about any cardio or non-cardio activity. Whether your child plays sports for fun or competitively, we’ve got them covered. When it comes to water sports, Eschen is extremely proud to be a leading provider of water legs and a co-founder of the Fin, the first-of-its-kind swimming prosthesis.
